If you are visiting Istanbul<\/strong>\u00a0in April\u00a0and like me, you like color, you are in luck! Every year the city welcomes spring with its Istanbul Tulip Festival. Millions of tulips are planted and there are flowers blooming everywhere. Don’t miss this festival\u00a0of color!<\/h2>\n

Every year in April, Istanbul<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0dresses up with millions of tulips of a wide variety of kinds and colors. With more than 20 million tulips planted, the Istanbul Tulip Festival\u00a0takes place in many parks along the city (such as\u00a0G\u00fclhane Park\u0131, Y\u0131ld\u0131z Korusu, Beykoz Korusu, G\u00f6ztepe 60. Y\u0131l Park\u0131, B\u00fcy\u00fck \u00c7aml\u0131ca<\/a> Korusu, etc.). However, the best place to experience the Istanbul Tulip Festival is Emirgan Park (Emirgan Korusu). This year almost\u00a03 million tulips of 190 different kinds have been planted there!<\/p>\n

Tulips came from Turkey, not from Holland<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Unlike the common beliefs that associate\u00a0tulips with the Netherlands, history says that tulips\u00a0originally grew wild on the Asian steppes and commercial tulip cultivation actually began in the Ottoman Empire. Tulips were brought to Holland by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.<\/p>\n

Throughout the history, the tulip has been one of Istanbul’s traditional symbols having a major role in Turkish arts and culture. Called lale<\/em> in Turkish, tulips even gave its name to the wealthiest period of Ottoman Empire (Lale Devri<\/em>, the Tulip Era).<\/p>\n

How to get to Emirgan Park\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

The tulip is one of the symbols of Istanbul.<\/p><\/div>\n

If you are in Istanbul during the month of April, do yourself a favor and visit the Istanbul Tulip Festival in Emirgan Park.<\/p>\n

The Istanbul Tulip Festival is officially on until April 30th. If you can, try to avoid going on the weekends, when it gets really crowded with locals families, and traffic jams make it difficult to access the park. I would also recommend visiting as early as possible before the flowers start wilting.<\/p>\n

Emirgan Park is located by the Bosphorus, in the district of Sariyer, a little bit past the\u00a0Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge (aka Second Bridge). You can reach Emirgan Park by bus 25E from Kabata\u015f <\/em>or 40B from Be\u015fikta\u015f.\u00a0<\/em>Another, more scenic, option is taking the \u00c7engelk\u00f6y-Istinye ferry line that has a stop in Emirgan and amazing views of the Bosphorus (keep in mind the times the ferry run are very limited).<\/p>\n

If you are considering to visit Istanbul, I highly recommend visiting in spring when\u00a0days are long, the weather is pleasant and you can enjoy the Istanbul Tulip Festival, not to mention the many other things that make this city, at least for me, the most beautiful on earth…<\/p>\n
